Up
until the Wednesday preceding the
tournament, the weather had been comfortable
with highs in the upper 60’s/lower 70’s. On
Wednesday a severe cold front settled in
bring cold rains/sleet and to the north of
here, Snow. Temperatures from
Wednesday through Saturday couldn’t get out
of the 40”s for highs and 30”s for lows.
Prior to the front, the Smallies of Tainter
Lake were thinking seriously about spawning,
with some nice fish being reported during
practice days. The front changed all of
that. In addition to the falling
temperatures, the lake temperature went from
60 degrees on Tuesday to low 50’s on
tournament day. In spite of these
conditions, 18 teams brought 51, bass, all
males, to the scale, weighing a total of
89.73 pounds.
First Place honors went to the team of Bob
Hulbert and Mark Rosencranz with their
5-fish limit of 10.25 pounds.
The next Bear’s Series tournament is on Lake
Wapogasset, June 11th, sponsored
by First Bank & Trust, Menomonie.
