The
weather was cool and partly cloudy as the
tournament day began. Shortly after the
start, however, the rain moved in and
continued throughout the whole day.
Chetek
Chain fished hard on this tournament day.
Thirty two teams brought only 98 fish to the
scales, weighing 211.02 pounds. Only 12 of
the 33 teams had 5-fish limits. First Place
honors went to the team of Ron Kubin and
Jason Slagstad with a winning weight of
16.54 pounds. This weight was good enough
to win the anglers a $1250 check for their
efforts. Big Bass of the tournament went to
the team of Rex Hilgart and Gary Jarosinski
with a 4.10 pound largemouth, worth $310.
This
tournament was the 5th and final
qualifying tournament for Wisconsin Team
Circuit’s Top Team-2007. Going into this
tournament, the team of Dave Doty and Troy
Ostby enjoyed what seemed like a comfortable
19+ point lead over the second place team,
Dennis Rhead and Chad Maves, and third place
team, John Gubrud and Dan Allen. In 2005,
the team of Doty and Ostby were leading in
points going into the final tournament, only
to lose Top Team honors to the team of Chuck
Postle and Cody Landt. I am sure the
memories of that day lingered in their
minds, was this to be a repeat of the 2005
season?
Check
out all the standings in the YTD Points
section of this website. All teams with a
total of 300 points are eligible to fish the
Wisconsin Bass Classic-2007, to be held
September 19-22, 2007 on the Minocqua Chain
of Lakes in beautiful Minocqua, Wisconsin.
The qualifying teams will be fishing for
$20,000.
