This was WTC’s
first visit to Lake Holcombe and it was the
kick-off tournament to the East Division’s
2009 season. And a great opening tournament
it was. The hospitality extended by our
hosts at East Bay, Rick and Sue, the owners,
and Bill and Tonia, the managers was GREAT!
They have a beautiful facility; please take
a moment on this site to view the pictures
of East Bay.
The weather
was perfect. Temperatures got into the
mid-70’s with only a slight breeze. I need
to mention, they grow BIG mosquitoes on Lake
Holcombe. They are big enough to carry away
small animals. Shortly after the sun came
up, however, they left the area.
The
competitive field at Lake Holcombe was full
at 48 teams. These teams brought 146 bass
to the scales weighing an impressive 349.79
pounds. 16 teams brought in a tournament
limit of 5 bass. There seemed to be an even
split between largemouth and smallmouth
brought to the scales. First place honors
went to the team of Scott Wilhelm and Rick
Wilhelm. Their bag consisted of a 5-fish
limit weighing an impressive 19.46 pounds.
They also captured Big Bass honors with a
hog weighing 5.20 pounds. Their total
paycheck was $1680.
Markquart
Motors’ contingency money of $150 for the
highest placing team driving a tow vehicle
purchased from Markquart Motors went to Dan
Allen. Second place, an Ultimate Detailing
Package from Markquart Motors, went to Mike
Calkins.
The winner of
the Marlin 22 rifle from General Coin and
Gun was Ed Monette. Ed was given the ticket
by someone who could not stay for the
drawing. I think I would have bought a
lottery ticket on Saturday if I were Ed.
Check out all
the results and photos of the Lake Holcombe
tournament on this site.
The chase to
the Classic and Top Team will begin heating
up now. The East Division’s next tournament
will be on the Chetek Chain, hosted out of
the Pokegama Inn, on June 27, 2009.
