2009-West
Division
Mississippi River-June 13, 2009
Host site: Evert’s Resort &

River Standings
The weather at
this tournament was completely different
than the conditions that greeted the
competitors at Tainter. The wind was calm
and afternoon temperatures were in the low
80’s. We had to delay the start by 30
minutes to allow the fog to lift. At 7:00AM
Lake Pepin was “socked” in. Weigh-in was
also pushed back to 3:30 PM.
This
tournament was typical of past Mississippi
River tournaments, where a lot of fish are
caught. However the total weights were
down. The 36 teams brought a total of 138
fish to the scales, weighing a total of
288.74 pounds. The team of Cory Hauk and
Andy Bylander captured 1st place
honors with a 5-fish limit weighing 13.91
pounds. This bag was worth $1000 in WTC
winnings, plus Cory is a Skeeter owner, so
Skeeter Boats paid him another $1000,
totaling $2000. Not bad for a Saturday on
the water. They edged-out the second place
team of Dan Meyer and Dave Sedani, also
running a Skeeter, by a mere .17 of a
pound. Big Bass honors went to the 6th
place team of Denny Rhead and Chad Maves
with a 4.68# “River Hog”.
WTC would like
to congratulate the owner of Markquart
Motors and Skeeter Boat Center, Dave
Markquart, major sponsors of WTC, for
competing in this tournament and finishing 7th
place. This was Dave’s first bass
tournament as a competitor, so he teamed-up
with Skeeter Boat Center pro-staffer and
river veteran, Jimmy Johnson. Smart move
Dave. Dave is an avid outdoorsman and loves
meeting with the people who enjoy fishing
and the outdoors, like he does.
Dave Sedani
won an additional $150 cash for owning a
Markquart Motors’ tow vehicle, on top of his
WTC 2nd place winnings. Dennis
Rhead won an Extreme Detailing Package,
worth $129, from Markquart Motors for also
owning a Markquart Motors’ tow vehicle.
The “Race for
Top Team” and the “Race to the Classic” is
starting to heat up with 2 tournaments down
and 2 tournaments to go. The top 2 teams in
this Division are new faces to WTC, followed
closely by WTC veterans. It will be
interesting to see if these 2 “Young Guns”
can continue to out-pace the veterans as we
turn the corner and head down the stretch to
Classic-2009.
Please take a
moment to view all of the results of this
tournament on the website.
The next
tournament on the West Division schedule is
July 11, 2009 on Clam Lake, Siren. Our host
site is the very nice Jed’s Laker Lounge.
