The May 16th
tournament on Tainter Lake kicked-off the
2009 Wisconsin team Circuit season. Our
host site, Jake’s Supper Club, did a very
nice job by providing hot coffee and warm,
delicious, home-bake rolls for the
competitors. This made the weather seem a
little more tolerable.
It could be
classified as one of the worse weather days
to fish a tournament. It was cold(40’s) and
the wind was coming out of the Northwest,
gusting to 35 MPH. This extreme cold front
had an adverse effect on the fish,
preventing Tainter Lake from demonstrating
its’ true nature as a great May Smallmouth
Bass fishery. The females had no desire to
put on their spawning ritual; all the fish
brought to the scales were small males.
Despite the adverse conditions, 36 teams
brought 75 bass to the scales, weighing a
total of 126.92. 1st place
honors went to Barry Rettke, fishing alone
on behalf of the team Mike Mattis and Barry
Rettke. Barry brought a tournament limit of
5 bass, weighing 10.26 pounds, to the
scale. This earned him a check of $1000 for
his efforts. In addition, Barry caught the
biggest bass of the tournament, weighing
2.84 pounds. This earned him an additional
$330.
Markquart
Motors, the Official truck and car sponsor
of WTC, offers contingency money to the top
finisher that drives a Markquart Motors
tow-vehicle. The check for $150 went to
Dennis Rhead. In addition, George Diller
received a free Ultimate Detail Package,
worth $129, from Markquart Motors for his 2nd
highest finisher driving a Markquart Motors
tow-vehicle. You can learn more about
Markquart Motors and Skeeter Boat Center’s
contingency programs for WTC competitors by
simply clicking on their logos on this site.
General Coin
and Gun, the Official gun shop of WTC,
provided a 22 rifle that was raffled to a
maximum of 30 contestants. Each
participating contestant also received a
hat, sporting the WTC logo. The winner of
the gun was Chad Maves, who chose the
Remington with a scope.
All of the
results and photos of this tournament can be
found on this site.
The West
Divisions next tournament will be June 16th
on the Mississippi River. The tournament
will be hosted out of Evert’s Fishing Resort
and Campground in Hager City
